FRIENDSHIP ROAD-TRIP PHOTO ESSAY
3 Friends, 2 Destinations, 1 car: Michigan to Vermont to Montreal
I started thinking about friendship frequently, and how lucky I am to have such beautiful relationships with my friends, this past year. College can be a difficult and isolating time for people, and it definitely has been a challenge for me at times. As cliché as it sounds, those lonely and anxiety-filled times that I have been on my own have led me to have a deeper appreciation for the times that I am surrounded by people I love and am laughing until I cry.
This photo-essay follows me and my friends on a spring break trip we took in February of 2018, driving from Michigan to Burlington, Vermont and to Montreal, Canada. This essay explores the bonds created through this trip and the simple moments that friends share together, and the emotions they reflect in each other when in close quarters for extended periods of time.
I used this photo-essay as a way to journal this trip and also as a way to bring light to the beautiful and strong bonds friends can share, and how their relationship and love is just as valid and important as any romantic relationship. While on this trip, a friend to many from my hometown took his life and I watched from a distance the ripple affect this loss had on many. He was friends with so many people, and touched so many lives. I hope that this photo-essay can explore how friendships affect the people involved in them. Friendships are important, lets cherish them and continue to make more of them.
